In 1991, when we first opened, we just needed to provide a safe haven for babies and infants so that their parents could pursue their careers confident that their children were being well looked after. Regulation was by local Social Services Departments. Caring staff at good nurseries worked with parents to monitor and promote their children's development, working towards well recognised milestones, while ensuring the children enjoyed a stimulating environment.
Today, services have become more professional, with a greater emphasis on education, tighter regulation from OFSTED and the Early Years Foundation Stage designed to ensure inclusivity and improved opportunities for all young children. In consequence staff have become more qualified, more aware of children's development and more responsive to their individual needs.
